From Lab to Life – Childhood Cancer Research Initiatives
It is our great pleasure to announce that the Children´s Cancer Research Institute will celebrate its 30-year anniversary with an expert symposium on trends for the future of pediatric cancer research. This international inter-disciplinary 2-day meeting will be held on October 19/20 2018 in Vienna, preceded by and in conjunction with the annual fall meeting of the German Society for Pediatric Oncology and Hematology (GPOH) on October 18.
The symposium will feature hot topics in cancer research with growing relevance to the field of pediatric oncology, including tumor plasticity, heterogeneity and evolution, in-silico approaches to understand tumor biology and guide therapy, innovative pediatric cancer models, novel concepts in precision medicine, the future of combination, targeted and immunotherapy, and next generation cancer diagnostics. These topics will be introduced by world leaders in the respective fields of expertise from pediatric and adult oncology and discussed in oral presentations and posters selected from submitted abstracts.
The lineup of speakers includes, among others, Scott Armstrong, Alain Fischer, James Downing, David Gisselsson, Shai Izraeli, David Langenau, Martin Nowak and Gudrun Schleiermacher. The meeting program will address burning questions of how to achieve the long awaited transition from understanding basic disease biology to actually benefiting pediatric cancer patients. Taking place in the 19th century ambience of the Billrothhaus in Vienna, reviewing selected highlights of CCRI research past and present, presenting the latest trends in cancer research and venturing glimpses into the future of multidisciplinary international biomedical science, this symposium is bound to inspire the next generation of pediatric cancer researchers.
